Operation Renovation: Kitchen Edition

As I mentioned before, a few months ago Grant invited a complete realtor stranger over to our house to "assess" our house for resale.  We were contemplating finishing the basement, but our new found friend let us know that our house was "Pottery Barn" (I like to say my style is Pottery Barn on a Target budget so I was thrilled by this), but we could update the kitchen.  As I knew from HGTV, buyers look for an updated kitchen and bathroom.  I guess my husband needed to hear it from a complete stranger because by the next weekend, plans were made.

Here are a couple pictures of our kitchen before.  Let me give you a little walk through.  It wasn't terrible, but it needed some work.  The counter tops were builder's grade tan laminate.  The back splash was your basic all white square tile.  The pulls on the doors had been updated a little, but I wasn't a fan.  We put in all appliances when we moved in and painted over the pastel multicolored, yep you read that right, sponge paint.  The color was kind of a butter yellow which really brought out the yellow of the cabinets.  Just what you want.  Not.

We started by tearing out the back splash.  Well, let me restate that.  Grant tore out the back splash and then had to repair the walls that were torn up because they had plastered the tile right onto the drywall.  Then we had Granite Transformations come in and re-do our counter tops.  LOVE THEM!  I painted the walls a grey and added a refinished chair.  Grant put up the new slate back splash and replaced the pulls on the drawers and cabinets.  Viola!  Finished product!  I love it, but never want to do that again.  I think my husband will second that.
