Summer So Far

I have to say that instead of "Summer So Far" this post should probably be called "Summer Almost Over" *sniff*.  Ole E Money and I have been thoroughly enjoying our time.  This summer has been filled with trying to beat the oppressive heat at Schiltterbaun {a.k.a. best people watching in KC}, dinner club with friends, movies, girls nights, play dates, t-ball, Pinterest projects and a heck of a lot of golf, golf, golf.  The kid would golf every waking minute if he could.  I'll be sad to see it all end in a few weeks:(

What else would you do before you wait for Thomas the Train to arrive?  That's right, golf.  Why not?

anne 3.0: party edition

About six months ago, my friend Blake {pictured below} and I got jazzed about my 30th birthday.  Oh we had big, BIG plans.  We are talking a four day Vegas extravaganza!  It was going to be epic.  Soon after we found that the flights were outrageous and we started talking about the lake.  That's right.  It's close enough to Vegas, right?  Welp, that didn't work out either.  Then I see an ad in Sunday's paper for the T-Bones party patio.  Winning!  I love me some T-Bones!

Please enjoy the pics below of the Dirty Thirty {Almost Vegas} Extravaganza.

anne 3.0

Tomorrow is the big day.  I will be turning the big 3-0.  I have always been the "baby" of all my friends.  This was not so good in high school when I was the last to drive or go to a rated R movie.  Not so good when I was in college and the last to drink.  You know, because I waited until I was 21 to have a sip of alcohol.  It did get a little better as I got older and I could joke about "not being 30 yet".  Duh, I was 29 and 3/4.
This past year two of my besties had their 30th birthdays.  One did fine with it only saying it was "a little weird".  The other cried, well, because she cries a lot anyway.  I didn't know how I was going to react.  I thought I would be perfectly fine.  This was just another day.  Since I run what seems like all morning and chase a 2 year old around all day, I already feel like I am way older than I am.  My body and brain hurt most of the time.  I thought that the number wasn't a huge deal.  I am slightly afraid of wrinkles and grey hair, but my body is pretty much shot already since I grew a human in there.  Then when I start to think about it, I have probably already lived over 1/3 of my life.  That is pretty darn scary.  I thought that I could take this fear one of two ways.  One, I could cry and think about what I should have already accomplished by now and all the regrets I have.  Two, I could make a list of dreams I still want to fulfill.  This led me to my very first bucket list.  It started as 30 to-dos.  It is now 37.  I figure I will probably come up with 13 more things to make it an even 50 by the time it is all said and done.  So this is a work in progress, but I didn't want my items to be too outrageous or too everyday...if that makes sense, so I did what any normal girl would do.  I took to Pinterest.  Let me tell you, there are some real doozies out there.  Go ahead and search it.  A lot of cliches (some I am doing:) and some really strange things.  So here it is, my list.  Some stolen and some things I have always wanted to do.

Mom vs. Marathon: 3 Weeks Down and a New Mix

Like I mentioned before, when my brother-in-law ran his first {and subsequently last} marathon a few years ago I vowed that I would never put myself through that.  Well now I am plenty of 5 and 10K's in + one half marathon down and on my way to my first full.  When my sister asked my brother-in-law if he had any tips for me we basically came to the consensus that I have succeeded if I get through the training and race day in the standing position.  That spells success to me.

Training Stats {Replacement of what was once "Baby Stats", you know, "Baby is the size of an avacado and can move its limbs}:
  • Tomorrow I will have completed 3 full weeks of training.
  • The longest distance I have ran so far is 7 miles which to me sounds pretty short compared to where I will be ending up in 15 weeks, but it took me about 7 weeks to work up to that when I was training for my half so I guess I have even impressed myself a little.  Next week is the big 9 miles and to put that in perspective, the most I ran to train for the half was 10 miles.  Oh boy.
  • My cross training Sundays have consisted of workouts I find on Pinterest which as we all know is the new Google.  I have found them to be fun because they mix it up and I end up working my rear end off...literally.
  • Temperature today...107 degrees.  Yes, you read that correct and yes, I run outside.  I have had to get up pretty darn early to beat the heat, but it is still about 90 degrees when I get up.  Lovely.
  • Pain: Knees, back and hammies
And now...the workout mix
I have spent several hours putting together a new mix for long runs.  I find that changing up my music helps A LOT and gives me something to look forward to. You know, besides the hours upon hours of running.  You will see that I have a very eclectic mix.  Everything from the Dixie Chicks to Jay-Z to Ray Lamontagne.  You will also see that I mix it up between fast and slow.  Sometimes I like to run to slower stuff.  It helps me relax and yes, I am starting to become one of those people who "clears their head" on runs rather than just praying it's over soon.  So here we go.  My hope is that you may see some of these songs and add them to your mix or that one day I'll look back and hopefully not regret the choices I made.
